AndyFood …

the best place in
Phoenix - Scottsdale
for a hands-on cooking experience.

Our culinary studio is devoted exclusively
to classes for the every-day cook.
A private party at AndyFood
is perfect for a:

… the art of a good meal
o Birthday o Girls'-Night-Out o Client Appreciation Event o Corporate Teambuilding
o Anniversary o Couples Class o Networking Event o "Just-Because" Get-Together

At each AndyFood Cooking Class ... (Private Parties and Teambuilding Classes):
o Everyone gets a copy of the menu and the recipes.
o The class will start with a demonstration of techniques necessary to make the lesson du jour.
o During the demonstration an appetizer will be served (Chef's choice/surprise).
o We always serve infused/flavored water. (Flavoring ingredients vary with season and availability).
o Coffee is always brewed upon request.
o Substitutions due to dietary restrictions can usually be made with advance notice.
o We will try to accommodate last-minute registrations - but we cannot guarantee their inclusion.
o For very large groups we suggest repeating the same class - on 2 or more consecutive days or at 2 different times the same day.
o There is a MAP to AndyFood (with directions including where to park) on our website - Click here
o Classes last about 3 hours - some groups stay longer, nibbling the food they've made and socializing.
o A deposit is required** to book a class. Why? Because, when you book a class for your party/event, that precludes AndyFood from offering that date/time slot to anyone else, and we can only do one class at a time.
o Final/full payment is due no later that 1 week before class.
o AndyFood will handle finances with one person. If attendees plan to pay individually, one of the guests/hosts must collect checks and forward them to AndyFood. In the alternative, that individual can pay AndyFood by check or credit card and then be reimbursed by the attendees.
o Alcoholic Beverages: You may bring your own beer and wine - and we have wine glasses and corkscrews. No additional fee is charged. During hands-on classes no alcoholic beverages may be opened or consumed until after the hands-on part of the class has been completed.

MINIMUM CLASS SIZE FOR PURPOSES OF PRICING IS 12 PERSONS. SMALLER CLASSES ARE ALWAYS AN OPTION, THE PRICE WOULD BE THE SAME AS FOR 12 PERSONS.

Hands-On Classes:
o Up to 24 persons with most menus. (Note: for larger groups who want a little "hands-on" kitchen action the mostly-demo Over-the-Top Pizza Class can accommodate up to 40 persons).
o We have aprons for those who want to protect their clothing. (New AndyFood aprons can be purchased for each student for an additional charge. We need 2 - 3 weeks notice for aprons).

Demonstration Classes:
o Up to 36 persons with most menus. (Some menus allow up to 40 persons for demonstrations)
o Service is usually buffet-style. The food is garnished and set out in the kitchen area. This gives everyone an opportunity to explore the kitchen.
o Depending on the menu, the first course may be delivered to the tables. The entrée is demonstrated while the first course is eaten. Dessert is usually demonstrated after everyone finishes eating the main course.

Suggestions for your guests:
o For hands-on classes wear comfortable shoes. Wear clothing that is kitchen-friendly (no long baggy sleeves, etc…). Let them know they’ll be in a kitchen cooking – even if you choose to keep some of the details a secret.
o Let the chef know if you have any food allergies.

Some of AndyFood’s most popular private class menus are detailed on our Teambuilding page. Other popular menus include: Trends & Tapas, Pastas and Sauces, Tamales (a cool weather favorite), Sweet & Savory Pies and Tarts, and Simple Hors D’Oeuvre.

OPTIONAL TASTINGS (PRICES ARE PER PERSON, AND AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST):
o SALT TASTING. Andy has dozens of salts, and conducts a unique tasting using dark chocolate as the medium. He has spoken about salt to culinary professionals and on the radio.
o CHEESE COURSE. Andy will conduct a unique tasting. You will enjoy a discussion of the theme of the tasting (why Andy chooses to include each cheese in the selection du jour, why he chooses to taste them in a particular order, and why he chooses to pair some of the cheeses with particular tasting companions).
o CHOCOLATE TASTING. You will be treated to a blind tasting of 10 to 12 chocolates. After rating the chocolates (based on color, taste, texture and flavor) you will learn the identity of each. The tasting includes a discussion of the history of chocolate and chocolate making. For those who choose a chocolate tasting Andy suggests substituting fresh fruit for the dessert that normally accompanies their meal. There is no charge for this substitution.
o A TASTING OF ANDY'S FAVORITE SOUTHWEST INGREDIENTS. Whether you choose a southwest theme or not, you and your guests might want to sample some of the local culinary treats Andy likes best (he is a native Arizonan). The tastings may vary based upon seasonal availability, but will always include Mexican chocolate, chipotle chilies (which will be used in shortbread), tomatillos, and Tamarindo (a Mexican drink). Andy will also make Pepita Mole (a pumpkinseed based mole that includes chocolate among its ingredients).

Andy’s Bio - AndyFood's proprietor/chef, Andy Broder, is an Arizona native who attended the Scottsdale Culinary Institute after practicing law in Phoenix for 12 years. He graduated with honors and did his externship at the Los Angeles Times, working on the Food Section - developing and testing recipes, writing about food and food styling. He has been a cooking instructor in the Phoenix metropolitan area since 1999. He is a member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals.

AndyFood is more than a teaching kitchen; it is a culinary studio where Andy blends all of his interests in the culinary arts.

Deposit Requirements: A deposit is required to reserve a date - because once you reserve a date it becomes unavailable for another booking. The deposit required is half the anticipated total cost of class - based on the best estimate of the total number of persons to attend. The A portion of the deposit is non-refundable, reflecting the business cost to AndyFood of removing the date you've chosen from the "available" list of calendar dates for private classes.

1. Cancellations made more than 60 days before the class/event, a fee of $250 is retained by AndyFood for services rendered (planning the event, business cost to AndyFood of removing the time/date from our "available" list of calendar dates).
2. Cancellations made less than 60 days but more than 30 days before the class/event, a fee of $500 is retained by AndyFood for services rendered (planning the event, business cost to AndyFood of removing the time/date from our "available" list of calendar dates).
3. Cancellations made less than 30 days but more than 1 week before the class/event, a fee equal to half the cost of the event (generally the required deposit) is retained by AndyFood for services rendered (planning the event, business cost to AndyFood of removing the time/date from our "available" list of calendar dates).

Thank you for understanding the necessity of our deposit and cancellation policy and the associated fees. Short-notice cancellations or date changes cause AndyFood significant financial loss. AndyFood can only do one class at a time. Once you've booked your class we are not able to offer the date/time you've reserved to others who are interested in planning a class at AndyFood.
